Tomo is an amazing musician and songwriter. Crinoline & Tweed lucked out getting to work with these two creative souls on their lovely wedding day. They had their ceremony and dinner on the beach near Lincoln Park in West Seattle and their reception party at the Columbia City Theater. We collectively chose a soft northwest beachy theme for their wedding so immediately we knew we wanted to use shells, sand, moss, and driftwood. The couple wanted to merge in some nods to their heritage, Frida's being Swedish and Tomo's being Asian. The couple made 1000 paper origami cranes and paper Swedish hearts to incorporate into the decor.
The ceremony took place on the beach with an arbor dressed in moss, flowers and ribbon along with strands of paper cranes in golden yellow and green the couple's color scheme. We sprinkled shells on the sides of the aisle and lined the chairs in flowers to add a little color.
After the ceremony guests mingled and found their escort cards for their dinner seat. We used pieces of mossy logs and Frida, the bride, designed crane silhouettes that were laser cut for the guest name cards that gently fit in groves we cut in the logs.
For table numbers we made dioramas using old canning jars. To create little beach scenes we added sand, shells Frida collected on a visit to Sweden, moss, and little vintage decorative mushrooms along with laser cut wood numbers to help aid guests in finding their table.
We created centerpieces out of driftwood found on the beach, purchased shells, fern leaves and decorative reindeer moss. We used jars of various sizes wrapped in ribbon with clusters of flowers in cream, green, yellow and browns to add a little color to the otherwise soft beach color palate. We chose hydrangeas, orinithogalum, asclepias, craspedia, dill and chamomile flowers to brighten things up. Each guest found a repeated crane element as their place card only this time each crane was cut out of wood veneer paper nestled in a handmade wood stump stand.
The grooms men's boutonnieres were fun to make. We used craspedia, a tiny chamomile bloom, bupleurum sprig and hellebium lollipop pod.
The bridesmaids wore their choice of golden yellow and green dresses. Each had a side swept loose bun accented with fresh blooms. The bouquets were made using dill, green eyed susans, craspedia, hypericum, bupleurum, chamomile, and a variety of other yellow and green flowers. On other tables glass vases held floral arrangements, cluster of shells with a backdrop of hanging paper cranes.
At the reception party at Columbia City Theater we focused on a few key areas to decorate. One was making a large wall art piece using more laser cut paper pieces and text the Bride, Frida, designed. Large paper letters hung on green twine with a quote from one of the couple's favorite songs. Clustered around the text were paper cranes, hearts and cut paper flowers.
We brought some driftwood, shells and moss to the venue to decorate the welcome table and the gift table. We made our own little beach settings in large glass hurricane dioramas with sand, shells, and other tiny creatures like seagulls, paper waves and other scenes to add to cocktail tables. Each was illuminated with a battery powered candle to give it a little flicker.
The take away favor for guests was a very lovely silk-screened poster with a quote from one of the couple's favorite songs. They made a larger version in place of a guest book that guests signed.
The couple had three large creamy cakes that we made a topper for the largest three tier cake. We used two paper cranes, a heart as a nod to the Swedish hearts found through out the space, shells, moss and tiny decorative mushrooms. The topper was illuminated with battery powered candles so in the low light venue it glowed and flickered. Edible flowers were also added to the cake in the color scheme.
We had such a lovely time at this wedding by the sea. Hope you are inspired to have a beach gathering of your own!
